One of my college textbooks in Logic described how a defense attorney got his client off by using an invalid argument. An invalid argument is a formal fallacy. I won’t go into the details of how this works or what makes an argument invalid, but the lawyer pulled a good one on the jury.
This has a term. It’s called sophistry, a deliberately invalid argument displaying ingenuity in reasoning in the hope of deceiving someone, and the jury fell for it.
So, Is It Worth It?
It disturbs me to no end to see people make a pact with the devil in exchange for a robust 401K that is doing well. To support a man who is a bully, a bigot and a pathological liar.
- A man whose Zero Tolerance Policy separated children from their families and put them in cages. Then deported their parents without due process. A human rights violation never before perpetrated by an American president.

It was an eight page scathing rebuke of the Impeachment inquiry. The rule, formally entitled “Asylum Eligibility and Procedural Modifications” (the “Rule” or the “third country transit bar”). The effect of the Rule is to categorically deny asylum to almost anyone entering the United States at the southern border if he or she did not first apply for asylum in Mexico or another third country.
