Fanning The Flames Of Bigotry

By now, most of you have seen the viral video of a lawyer going ballistic in a restaurant in Manhattan because people were speaking Spanish. He threatened to call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) whereupon the manager dared him to do it. The last I heard he was released from his law firm.
This is not an isolated event. You can find dozens and dozens of videos online of irate people ranting and verbally abusing someone because they weren’t speaking English. Or worse yet, their skin color is not lily white (read Hispanic or Muslim).

Antonin Scalia and the 2nd Amendment

“Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”

Believe it or not, this is a quote from the majority opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) by Antonin Scalia. The court voted 5-4 to strike down a D.C.’s law which in part banned hand guns outright.

Designed To Kill

During Air force basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, I received instruction in the use of and firing of the M-16. This was during the Vietnam era.
On the firing range, the instructor informed us that the M-16 was the first military rifle designed to kill its victim. The M-16 is the full auto version of the semi-auto AR-15.

How is the M-16 designed to kill?

The Wall v. DACA

This is a copy of a letter I sent to Ohio Senator Rob Portman:

Dear Senator Portman,
On June 16, 2015 Donald Trump said this about Mexicans,

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Mexican-Americans were outraged. Were you? If you weren’t, shame on you.
When he said, “I assume” he hedged. He is casting doubt on the “are good people” part and asserting that his false and ignorant statement that “They’re rapists.” is true.
His statement is outrageous and bigoted. If you can’t see that, then you have a serious problem.

Sessions v. Marijuana

The New York Times December 7, 1993-

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7— The nation’s Surgeon General, Joycelyn Elders, today recommended that the Government study the idea of legalizing drugs, suggesting that doing so might reduce violent crimes. But she stopped short of endorsing such a radical reversal of the nation’s drug policy.

She was vilified by Republicans.

The Evangelical Christian Cunundrum

A poll showed that 80% of Evangelical Christians who voted in Alabama voted for Roy Moore. This despite his anti-gay, anti-Muslim beliefs. He has commented that homosexuality should be illegal and that Muslims should not be able to serve in the US Congress. He has defied two US Supreme Court rulings which resulted in his removal from the Alabama Supreme Court bench, and has been accused of sexual misconduct with minors.

A Facebook friend of mine shared a post the other day reporting that President Donald Trump told members of the media they were permitted to stay for his prayer session with Cabinet members because “you need it more than I do.”

My comment was:

“What a hypocrite.”

Donald Trump Is Destroying The Dignity Of The Presidency

(The Guardian) On 16 June 2016, Jo Cox, the British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, died after being shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
Thomas Mair uttered the words “Britain first” and “keep Britain independent” as he carried out the “brutal, cowardly” and politically motivated murder according to Mair’s prosecutor.

British TV Regulator Cites Fox News For Not Being Impartial. Really?

It would probably come as no surprise that Britons DO NOT LIKE Donald Trump. In fact an official visit to the UK scheduled for later this year was delayed. Ostensibly because there would be massive anti-Trump protests; something The Donald doesn’t like.

And then there’s this:

On Thursday, Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow doubled down on his view that Trump should not be allowed to address lawmakers in the historic Westminster Hall during an official visit to the United Kingdom. Trump has still not earned the right and does not deserve the honor, Bercow reportedly said at a Queen Mary University London event.

Another item:

Something most Americans are not aware of, 21st Century Fox pulled the plug on Fox News’ simulcast of the US version in the UK citing low viewership. Really? What a surprise. FYI, 21st Century owns Fox News.

Another reason for pulling the plug, Fox News is the US version and Brits don’t have that much interest in it.

But there’s something else going on over there that I find interesting as we’ll see shortly.
