Greetings, Climate Change deniers.
Let it be known that the preponderance of evidence to confirm the reality of Global Warming, which is a more accurate and ominous term, makes its fact undeniable. 18 of the 19 warmest years on record have occurred since 2001. Your denial is irrational, illogical and irresponsible. Yet 13% of Americans deny the reality claiming it’s a hoax or all the scientists are on the take.
They’ll seize on any absurd and ridiculous claim to shoot down the Green New Deal.
Windmills cause cancer.
When the wind stops blowing, your TVs will go out.
We can’t eat cows anymore.
Does all this sound familiar? Think of our exalted leader, Donald Trump, Denier-in-Chief.
By the way, the Green New Deal does NOT ban beef. It suggests the need to reduce consumption of meat.
And actually, the cows thing is not that outlandish.
Here’s why.
Unless blessed by some divine intervention, every human being on the planet does something daily that our parents taught us not to do in public: pass gas, or in other words, fart.
So do cows and pigs. I’m not sure about chickens.
Americans in particular, consume unbelievable amounts of beef annually. This despite, in some cases, the warning of their cardiologist. As someone once said, “I like my meat red, dead and cornfed.”
Each American consumed, on average, about 165 lbs of beef in 2018. Total consumption of beef, pork and chicken will be a record 222.2 lbs of meat and poultry in 2019.
So what is this gas that’s being passed? Methane. Methane is a green house gas, and cows give off a lot of it.
Generally speaking, people do not like change, and in order to make significant reductions in green house gases, people’s and government’s behaviors are going to have to change. This change in lifestyles maybe a contributing factor for denying Climate Change.
These changes include:
- Invest in and build more alternative sources of electricity such as solar and wind.
- Use energy far more efficiently and apply strong carbon taxes to cut fossil fuel use.
- Stabilize global population – currently growing by 200,000 people a day – using ethical
approaches such as longer education for girls. - End the destruction of nature and restore forests and mangroves to absorb CO2.
- Eat mostly plants and less meat, and reduce food waste.
- Shift economic goals away from GDP growth.
This list is from a statement released by lead author Prof William Ripple of Oregon State University. The statement was a collaboration of dozens of scientists and endorsed by further 11,000 from 153 nations.
Add to the list, buying and driving hybrid or all electric vehicles, since combustion engines are a significant contributer of CO2. By the way, Norway will allow only electric cars by the year 2025.
For now, these vehicles are not very cheap and still have a carbon footprint. Furnaces to turn raw materials into steel and tires. Electricity from fossil fueled power plants to produce aluminum and the irony of having to plug in to charge the batteries.
Under the Trump administration, the words “climate change” and any reference to climate studies have been removed from the official website of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The Trump administration has officially notified the United Nations that it is beginning the process of pulling out of the Paris Agreement. The pullout will culminate one day after the 2020 U.S, election. This makes the U.S. the ONLY nation on the planet to exit the Agreement.
Greta Thunberg, a very brave, intelligent and dedicated young lady of 16 said this to the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York,
“My message is that we’ll be watching you.
“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!
“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!
“For more than 30 years, the science has been crystal clear. How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough, when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.
“You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency. But no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that. Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act, then you would be evil. And that I refuse to believe.”
She was vilified by the conservative media aka Fox News.
Human scum and racist Senior White House adviser Stephen Miller (see my blog) tweeted,
“Tase and arrest her.”
No wonder this human scum, racist is not married and probably never will be.
What the hell is wrong with these people.
