Gunsmoked Or Get Outta Dodge

For some time now, reruns, and there are a plenty, of the long-running classic TV show Gunsmoke starring James Arness are being aired on a couple of these over-the-air DTV channels. Arness plays Marshal Matt Dillon along with a host of other actors. Marshal Dillon is charged with maintaining law and order in Dodge City, Kansas circa 1870s. Over the course of twenty years of the program’s run, Dillon always had a side kick helper played by three different actors. In the beginning, it was Chester Goode played masterfully by Dennis Weaver.

Who Is This Stephen Miller Guy?

There’s an adage:
You can pick your friends.
You can pick your nose,
but you can’t pick your relatives.

Stephen Miller is a low-keyed senior White House advisor to Donald Trump. He is singularly the father of the Zero Tolerance policy that separated immigrant children from their parents. He shares credit for Trump’s Muslim ban with former WH senior staffer Steve Bannon.
Recently an op-ed piece appeared on Politico’s web site and magazine titled:

Stephen Miller Is an Immigration Hypocrite. I Know Because I’m His Uncle.

We Are Not Amused

I thought it odd that when I read a quote of British Monarch Queen Victoria (1837-1901) in which she said, “We are not amused.” that she said “we” instead of “I.”
I later discovered why. She’s speaking for the Empire and not herself. All reigning monarchs use the plural “we.” It’s use has a name. It’s called majestic plural (pluralis maiestatis).

I don’t know how many people may have picked up on this, but when Donald Trump was talking to Kim Jong un, he asked if “I” could get the remains of Korean War MIAs repatriated back to the US. Notice he said “I” and NOT “we.”
What does that tell you about the man?
We are not amused.

I See Dead People

From a man who graduated (?) from Wharton School, Donald Trump claims he had been asked by many parents of American soldiers MIA in the Korean War to have their sons remains repatriated to the US.
The Korean War ended 65 years ago.
Apparently Donald Trump never took any history or math classes..
A surviving Korean War veteran would be at least 83 and his parents at least 101 years old.
So Trump communicated with the parents:

  1. through a seance.
  2. with a Ouija board.
  3. wait, HE’S LYING.

Living In A Van Down By The River

It’s been said that no amount of reasoning will convince hard-core Trump supporters that they made a bad choice by voting for him. A recent Gallop Poll showed Trump’s approval rating among Republicans is currently at 85 percent.
However, this poll doesn’t address the issue of how many of that 85% will ignore just about any outlandish or egregious policy decisions he can throw at the American people. Or our steadfast friendly nations given his recent trade tariffs.
Furthermore, 81% of white Evangelical Christians voted for Trump. They overlooked his “grab ‘em by the pussy” comment and voted for him any way.

Fanning The Flames Of Bigotry

By now, most of you have seen the viral video of a lawyer going ballistic in a restaurant in Manhattan because people were speaking Spanish. He threatened to call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) whereupon the manager dared him to do it. The last I heard he was released from his law firm.
This is not an isolated event. You can find dozens and dozens of videos online of irate people ranting and verbally abusing someone because they weren’t speaking English. Or worse yet, their skin color is not lily white (read Hispanic or Muslim).

Antonin Scalia and the 2nd Amendment

“Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”

Believe it or not, this is a quote from the majority opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) by Antonin Scalia. The court voted 5-4 to strike down a D.C.’s law which in part banned hand guns outright.

Designed To Kill

During Air force basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, I received instruction in the use of and firing of the M-16. This was during the Vietnam era.
On the firing range, the instructor informed us that the M-16 was the first military rifle designed to kill its victim. The M-16 is the full auto version of the semi-auto AR-15.

How is the M-16 designed to kill?
