…between a hero and a racist scumbag?
On October 10, 2008, presidential candidate John McCain attended a town hall meeting to take questions from the people. A woman holding the microphone says,
I don’t trust Obama. I have read about him, he’s not; he’s not; he’s not um; he’s an Arab.
What did McCain do? He responded by taking the microphone away from the woman saying,
No ma’am; no ma’am. He’s a, he’s a. he’s a decent family man, citizen who I happen to have disagreements with…
I remind you that in 2015, Donald Trump said this about John McCain,
“He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”
On July 14, 2019, Trump attacked four US Congresswomen, though not calling them by name, with this Tweet,
Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how……..it is done.
This is a form of a typical racist trope, “go back where you came from.”, that many people of color hear in this country. It is hurtful.
On July 17, 2019, Donald Trump held one of his typical political rallies in North Carolina where he continued his attack on US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and his supporters started to chant,
Send her back, send her back!
Sound familiar? This, by the way, is reminiscent of the “Lock her Up” chant against Hillary Clinton.
What did Trump do?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
So who’s the hero, and who’s a racist scumbag?
